Faith Nguthu Promises Economic Empowerment as She Launches 2027 Bid
Nguthu made the declaration during a launch event held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), ending months of speculation about her political plans and formally joining the contest for one of Nairobi’s key elective offices.
Addressing supporters at the event, she emphasized the need for women in Nairobi to take a more active role in influencing the county’s political and economic direction.
She stated that women should no longer be viewed merely as voters during election periods, arguing that their electoral strength should be translated into lasting economic opportunities and financial independence.
Nguthu explained that her decision to seek public office stems from years of engagement with women and youth groups across Nairobi’s informal settlements, where many residents continue to struggle economically despite various development interventions.
The pilot, known for her community empowerment efforts, noted that effective leadership should focus on creating sustainable opportunities that improve household livelihoods and promote long-term financial security.
Reflecting on her career, she said that although aviation has taken her to great heights professionally, her commitment has always remained with the communities she serves. She added that much of her income has been invested in initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of ordinary citizens.
According to Nguthu, her programmes have benefited women and young people through educational support, economic empowerment projects, and other community development initiatives.
She observed that while charitable contributions can provide short-term assistance, meaningful and widespread change requires legislative influence and access to public resources.
Nguthu argued that holding an elected office would provide the authority and resources necessary to expand the impact of her initiatives across Nairobi County.
She further stressed that women deserve leaders who remain accessible and actively engaged with their communities throughout their term, rather than appearing only during election campaigns.
The aspiring Woman Representative also pledged to support government development programmes while ensuring that women, youth, and vulnerable populations directly benefit from the opportunities created through such initiatives.
She called for stronger links between government programmes and the communities they are intended to serve, saying effective leadership is essential in addressing persistent economic challenges.
Political analysts believe her entry into the race is likely to heighten competition for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat. They point to her extensive grassroots connections, strong mobilisation network, and influence within Nairobi’s informal settlements as factors that could make her a strong contender in the 2027 election.
